EFFECT Photonics continue expansion in Torbay

Dutch owned EFFECT Photonics BV design and develop high speed optical components for communication systems and applications enabling more widespread access to the Internet.

Following successful completion of next round of funding, EFFECT Photonics BV now plan to further accelerate expansion at its advanced manufacturing facility at the University of Plymouth Brixham Laboratory in Torbay to ramp up volume production and develop the next product generations. This next stage of growth sees the company invest over £4.2m in their Brixham facility over the next three years.

EFFECT continue to work in close partnership with the TDA and as a key member of the Torbay Hi Tech Forum become an increasing influence in the World renowned photonics cluster within Torbay.

In addition to expansion of its manufacturing capability, EFFECT have also been appointed lead partner in a £2M Innovate UK funded research program.

As part of the the research into advanced photonics packaging, EFFECT has commissioned its own qualification and reliability facility to support customer acceptance and reduce time to market. This has resulted in an increase in staff in the past nine months, consisting of a mixture of experienced photonics engineers, graduates, production operators and apprentices.

This year’s expansion plans require recruitment of at least 30 operators and 10 professional support staff. To achieve this EFFECT continues to source high calibre engineers both locally and nationally. This will increase the headcount at Brixham to almost 80 staff.
